Are you trying to decide the right gifts to buy the Crafters in your life?

We all have at least one friend or family member who is uber crafty. The question is what do you buy for the person who can make it themselves? The truth is, crafter are probably some of the easiest people to buy presents for. Why? Well, we love to craft. We always have at last one project that we are working on and who knows how many that we want to do. You can never go wrong getting a crafter Tools and materials. honestly, most crafters I know have a mile long unspoken wish list of things they would love to have or work with. To help give you some ideas Below is a list I compiled of some of the best most sought after tools, materials and more that a Crafter will adore this Christmas!

1-Gift Cards

Ok, let’s start with gift cards. I know it isn’t terribly creative but Gift Cards are always welcome since every crafter has a list a mile long of materials they want/need for various projects they are working on. or dream of wanting to work on. If you aren’t sure what kind of crafter your friend is or what specifically they have on their materials wish list, then a gift card is always a safe option. If you want to be a bit fancier or personal try giving the gift card in a creative way. There are tons of ideas for how on Pinterest.  Here are the top 6 Stores to consider getting Gift Cards for your Crafty loved one:

JoAnns

Michaels

Hobby Lobby

Amazon

Cricut (for supplies and Cricut Access)

2-Classes

craftsy

Whether at local stores like JoAnns, Michaels as well as many local shops offer great hands-on classes to teach you “How To” make, create or do various crafting skills and projects. I would recommend checking out your local stores to see what classes they are offering. Another option for Craft classes (in case your local stores don’t have any available) is Craftsy.  In case you haven’t heard of them before: Craftsy is a website where experts in their various classes offer online classes to help you learn “How To” do almost anything you could want to learn in the crafts field. While Craftsy has temporarily removed the ability to gift classes you can always get a regular gift card for your loved one to use

3-Electronic Cutting Machines, Accessories & Materials

There are a few great quality Crafting Machines out there. I have tried more than one and by far my favorite are the Cricut Machines. You can read about why I switched from my Silhouette Cameo to Cricut Explore Air HERE.  Of all the Cricut machines the one everyone has on their wish list this year is Cricut’s newest model their Cricut Explore Air 2.

Cricut Explore Air 2

Cutting and drawing 2x faster than the Cricut Explore Air, this state of the art cutting machine is a crafter’s dream come true. (Check out my Review Here) Cricut is known for being easy to use. So whether you are a beginner or an expert you will love this machine. With it you can make cards, banners, decorations, Custom clothing , jewelry, and accessories. You can make DIY home decor, and personalized gifts. The possibilities are endless. This machine can cut 60 different materials, score paper and even draw. In addition to that, you can use their print and cut feature to print our your designs then use your machine to precisely cut those designs out! I have recently fell in love with that feature and plan to use it for some of my upcoming holiday projects! With Cricut Design Space you can either use premade designs or import your own.  Even better it is set up for Bluetooth and wifi so you don’t even need to have it hooked directly into your computer. Here are a few of the projects I have made with my Cricut:

Recommended Cricut Products to get along with the Cricut Cutting Machine

As any crafter can tell you it is important to have the proper tools when working on yoru craft. For Cutting Machines this tool set is a must have. It includes:

  1. Tweezers to lift and secure delicate material
  2. Weeder to remove tiny negative cuts
  3. Micro-tip scissors with protective blade cover
  4. Spatula to lift cuts from the mat
  5. Scraper to burnish material and clean all cutting mats
  6. Interchangeable end caps to customize colors

When cutting certain materials you will want to use a special Deep Cut Blade (don’t worry the blades aren’t expensive and are easy to switch out depending on the project) to get that perfect cut.

The deep cut blade is recommended for:

  1. Magnet
  2. Chipboard
  3. Stamp material
  4. Thick cardstock
  5. Stiffened felt
  6. Foam sheets
  7. Cardboard
  8. Fabric

This blade is amazing. Designed to work with light to mid weight materials, it keeps its sharpness a lot longer than the standard blade which means you aren’t having to replace it as often while still getting those crisp exact cuts you need for those intricate projects.

Did you know that Cutting mats come with different adhesive strengths to use with different materials? You can also get mats in the standard 12×12 or in the 12×24 for those larger projects!

While you can definitely buy materials all over the place to use with your cricut machine (after all it can cut over 60 different materials) Cricut has a fine line of materials that they offer too. In the Cricut store (and at JoAnns, & Michaels) you can buy Vinyl, Iron-on (Heat Transfer Vinyl), Window Clings, Cardstock, Faux Leather, Adhesive Foil, Poster Board, Printable Magnet sheets, Washi sheets and more. You can also buy an assortment of colorful pens designed to be used with your Cricut!

4-Photo Printers and Supplies

It’s amazing how often a Crafter needs to use a printer for various projects. If you don’t have a high-quality printer then you end up going to a local copy center to get your printing done which can add up pretty quick. One color printed page on cardstock can often cost anywhere from .45 a page to $1.  Having your own printer can not only save you money (even with having to periodically replace ink) it is also convienient. It’s nice to be able to work on projects in the middle of the night when the kids are in bed.  Right now my go to favorite printer is Canon’s iP8720.

This Printer is perfect for Crafters. It can print, scan and copy. It is wireless so you don’t have to have it plugged into your computer to work (though you can if you want) You can print in high definition color on paper, printable vinyl or sticker paper, and even photographs. You can even print straight off of your social media or an SD card from your camera which is awesome for scrapbooking. Personally,  I love using it with my Cricut to utilize their Print & Cut option.

As anyone who has used a color printer know, having backup ink cartridges is a good idea. This way you don’t have to worry about being caught in the middle of a project without the ink color you need.

If you want to print out your own photos for scrapbooking, crafts or to just frame you need quality photo paper as well as a quality printer. This photo paper pack is quality and very inexpensive.

5-Sewing Machine and Accessories

For those crafters who love to sew having a reliable versatile sewing machine is a must! You want a machine that is easy to use and take care of that allows you to do various stitches for the different project you are working on. My favorite sewing machine is the Brother CS6000i.

Brother CS6000i Feature-Rich Sewing Machine With 60 Built-In Stitches, 7 styles of 1-Step Auto-Size Buttonholes, Quilting Table, and Hard Cover

Brother Sewing MachineThis actually my Sewing Machine. My husband bought it for me years ago when we first got married as a birthday present and I am so glad he did. It works great for beginner and intermediate sewers. This sewing machine has 60 different stitches to give you a lot of versatility while working on your sewing project. By using the quilting table that comes with this machine I have even quilted 3 large afghan sized quilts. With the hardcover case on this machine is light weight and very portable wich is a great feature since I am often taking my sewing machine with me to work on projects together with a friend or family member.

Nothing is worse than having your needle snapping on you right in the middle of your sewing project. Even worse is not having a replacement needle on hand. This 10 pack of sewing needles will give you pleanty of backups.

When sewing you want to use quality thread so you don’t gum up your machine. You also want thread that is versatile for different fabrics so you can use it more universally. I love Gutermann Sew-All Thread for those very reasons. They come in a variety of colors. Two colors every sewer should have are white (yes lots and lots of white) and black.

Simply stated one can never have too many sewing bobbins. I love to keep an assortment of all the colors of thread I most often use. They re great for compact sewing kits and of course you use them on your sewing machine.

6-Lightbox

Lightboxes are used for many a crafting project. From tracing to embossing to stenciling, needlework, embroidery, scrapbooking, Stained glass making, hand lettering and more! They really are a must have for every craft room! The Lightbox I have had my eye on is the Artograph Light Tracer Light Box.

Artograph LightTracer Light Box
lightboxThe Artograph LightTracer Light Box has a 10×12″ work surface and is only 2 lbs, which means, it is portable too. I like the little try to hold other tools you may be using in conjunction with whatever project you pulled it out for.  This light box provides what is called “daylight'” lighting which means the light is distributed evenly across the work surface which is a must-have feature on a lightbox.

7-Fun Kits/Sets

Once you start crafting it fast becomes addicting. It can be fun to branch out and try new things. So for Christmas way not gift your crafting friend or loved one with a fun Crafting kit to introduce them to new ways to craft!
