The Alsos House in Kalabaka Greece is the perfect place to stay for families visiting Meteora!
Recently my family had the privilege of visiting Kalabaka, Greece to see the Meteora Monasteries (built between the 14th and 17 Century). While there, we stayed at The Alsos House, which worked out perfectly for our family of 5. One of the things I have learned traveling through Europe with 3 young kids is how hard it can be to find family accommodations at hotels. Due to how young my kids are I can’t just get a second room (unless my husband and I split up each taking a room and a kid or two (which we didn’t want to do.) Thankfully the Alsos House in Kalabaka in addition to standard rooms also has a family Apartment which we were totally excited about.
The Family Apartment was simple yet clean and provided all we could want and need for our 4-night stay in Kalambaka. The most important feature, in my opinion, was the multiple beds. The Family Apartment included 1 double bed and 2 single beds which worked out perfectly for our family. My husband and I got the double bed, of course, My two boys (aged 2 & 4) shared a single bed and my 6-year-old daughter got her own single bed.
The Apartment also came with a desk to work on, A large TV, an armoire closet, a small kitchenette, and bathroom. I was particularly excited for the kitchenette which meant we could get some groceries in town for breakfasts and lunches to cut our food cost while staying in Kalambaka. Oh and since we were at the base of the Meteora Mountains the view from our bedroom window was amazing!
Our kids favorite part of Alsos House was the small playground. Each day we spent time pushing the kids on the swings, helping the youngest with the teeter totter and watching out oldest climb on the bars.
The Alsos House is located right at the base of the Meteora mountains conveniently close to the Old Meteora trail. We took our kids on the trail our last day of our stay and we LOVED it. The Alsos House is also just down the street from the Old Byzantine Church (built between 9th and 11th Century and is still used by the locals today) The hotel is not far from town center so it was easy to walk into town to get groceries, treats from one of the many local bakeries, and dinner each night to enjoy the local food.
When we arrived we were greeted by the charming owner and his nephew who works there. They then helped us carry our luggage to our room. Throughout the stay, they were helpful with directions, suggestions and friendly conversation. I would highly recommend the Alsos House for any family visiting Kalabaka, Greece to see the famous Monasteries like we did.
