Top Family Friendly Things To Do In Kansas City, Kansas
(A big thank you to Kansas City, Kansas Tourism for hosting this visit to facilitate writing this post. All opinions expressed are entirely my own. You can read my full disclosure here.)
Have you ever Visited Kansas City, Kansas?

Recently we went on a short spur of the moment road trip to Kansas City, Kansas. This was our first time visiting there, but it definitely won't be the last. If I had to describe our visit I would have to say it was like stepping back in time. There is soo much history, found in Kansas City. More than I ever imagined.
We were only visiting for 2 days so we tried to pack as much into our visit as we could, but there was still soo much we weren't able to see that I really wanted to. (like the agricultural museum, the Lewis and Clark Park, and the Quindaro Underground Railroad Museum.) Like I said, it just means we need to go back.
Whenever we travel we like to find great family friendly places to eat. Even better if the place is unique (like the Organ Stop Pizza, in Mesa, Arizona). That's why when we heard about Fritz Railroad Restaurant I knew that we just had to go eat there during our recent family visit to Kansas City, Kansas. I mean who wouldn't want to go eat a to a restaurant where your food is brought out to you by toy trains that run on tracks above your head?
Entering Frits was like taking a step back in time for it had that old school Americana feel. Of course, the decorative theme of Frits was trains. It was fun to order our meal via a phone in our booth after which an employee brought out our drinks and let us know that the rest of our order would be brought out by the trains shortly.
We all enjoyed watching the overhead train bring our meal to our table. (click here to see our fb video showing the train bringing our food. It was soo cool!) Even better the food was amazing! We totally have to go back next time we are in the area.
Another fun place we ate at while visiting Kansas City, Kansas was Dave and Busters convieniently situated at the Legends Outlet (not far from where we were staying). My friend told me their family loves going there and his kids like calling it an adult Chucky Cheese. At Dave and Busters they had a section for more quiet dining next to their sports bar, however, they also had a fun family dining area next to all their epic arcade area.
On their menu, they had some fun specials where you could order some yummy food and get a card with game credits on it. We decided that would be the best way to go so we could not only have a yummy dinner but also enjoy our time afterward playing games in their arcade. Some of the games we played were just for fun, but some game tickets that our kids happily turned in to get some prizes at the end of the night. I am totally a fan of Dave and Busters as the place to go for family fun.
One of our days in Kansas City was spent enjoying the amenities and Waterpark at the Great wold Lodge where we were staying during this visit. (You can read about our experience at the Great Wolf Lodge here) During the other day and a half of our visit, we managed to pack in a lot of fun experiences.
We had fun exploring the Legends Outlet (near where we were staying). Not only did they have great shops they also had cool tributes to over 80 Kansas Legends from history like Amelia Airhart. As we explored the outlet we tried to find everything on the Legends Outlet Scavenger Hunt that we got from Kansas City, Kansas tourism.
On our way to going to eat at Fritz, we had to stop and check out their Murals project downtown where eight gorgeous murals were painted in vivid colors on the sides of buildings in a 4 block corridor. We had been told about them by Kansas City, Kansas Tourism and I am glad we took the time to check them out.
Did you know that one of the stops for the Underground Railroad was in Kansas City? Sadly we weren't able to check out the Quindaro Underground Railroad Museum (since it is run by volunteers it is the only op on certain days.) However, we did take our kids to the Quindaro ruins & overlook where they learned all about the men and women who risked so much to help fleeing slaves make their way to freedom.
Our last fun stop in Kansas City, Kansas was the Moon Marble company where we had the pleasure of watching a demonstration for making Handmade glass art marbles. It was amazing to watch the artist use a torch and pieces of colored glass to create a beautifully designed glass marble.
After the demonstrations, we looked at all the really cool handmade glass art marbles. Some of which totally blew me away with the intricate designs. Then we went to the front of their store where I let our kids kick out a set of marbles to buy to take home and play with. they had a ton of colors and designs so we got a cool collection. Now to teach my kids out to play a classic game of marbles.
Our whole family had soo much fun visiting Kansas City, Kansas. We cant wait to go back and check out the other fun museums, parks and activities available for families!
