A Fun, Easy and Delicious St. Patrick's Day!

Sharing is caring!

Yesterday was St. Patrick's Day and even though things didn't turn out how I had planned, it turned out to be a magical day anyway.

Five years ago my sister and her family moved to Wisconsin after her husband got a job with a large company out there. Over the years we kept in touch via many a phone call and skype. Then last year her husband decided to leave his job and work with a start-up company allowing them to move back home. Now her family lives less than two miles away. I love it! They are close enough to walk to on a fine day. Of course, we get together often. For not only do I love seeing my little sister, but my kids adore their cousins.

I am especially excited that they live close when fun holidays come around like St. Patrick's Day.

St Patricks Day2

I had sooo many ideas for celebrating St. Patrick's Day I with my children. Unfortunately, I ended up spending the entire night before up with my teething baby. This meant that instead of getting up early to make a fun Irish breakfast my husband and children had to content themselves with cold cereal while I tried to catch at least an hour or two of much-needed sleep.

Thankfully later in the day, I was able to get together with my uber creative sister and her kids to celebrate.

Everyone was able to scrounge up something green to wear for St. Patrick's Day, so nobody was pinched (much to the relief of my 4 year old daughter). My younger brother kept our kids entertained for over an hour by hiding 130 fake gold coins in my basement and then sending all four of the older kids to find and collect them. Meanwhile, my sister had bought fresh fruit for us to make a fruit rainbow (a fun, delicious, and HEALTHY snack) as well as cute little bags with stickers and gold coins for each of us. As far as celebrating it was simple yet let lots of fun.

What did your family do to celebrate St. Patrick's Day this year?

  1. I love that you're willing to admit that things didn't go as you'd planned <3. You made the day magical, in spite of failed expectations, and I think you're awesome.

    1. Thanks. I can't tell you how many times my amazing plans have just not come to pass. However, I learned long ago that even so I can still make it special.
