Examples of Fatherhood

Sharing is caring!

I have many great examples of Fatherhood in my life. However, whenever I think of Fathers, there are two images (or rather memories) that stand out in my mind.

The first is of me sitting on my father's lap as we talked about anything and everything.  I cannot tell you how many memories of my dad include me being safely held in his strong yet gentle arms while I laid my head on his shoulder and we talked.  My father was my foremost confidant (closely followed by my mother). I learned over the years that if I had a question, concern or even just needed someone who would listen to me that my dad is always there. This has helped me soo much in my life.

The other image or memory that comes to mind when I think of fathers is my own husband. I will never forget waking up a few hours after delivering our first child. I could hear my husband talking in whispers to our daughter. I listened as he apologized for originally wanting a boy, and how he was at first disappointed when the ultrasound technician told/showed us that we were having a girl.

After a pause, he continued in a whisper to tell her that the feeling of disappointment only lasted for a second before she turned toward him on the monitor, raised her little fists to her face and yawned. It was at that moment he said that he fell in love with his little angel.  He went on to tell her about how perfect and beautiful she was and that he would always love her.  At this moment I slowly cracked my eyes opened and turned my head to see the most loving look on my husband's face as he gazed down at the time bundle in his arms.

Over the years, I have watched my husband's love for our (now 3) children grow which brings peace and joy to my heart.  I  pray each night that someday my boys will grow to be fathers like their father and grandfather are and that my daughter will someday marry such a man.
