Have you seen the new Nature of Color Exhibit at the NHMU?

We love visiting museums with our children wherever we travel. Thankfully, we have several amazing museums where we live that we enjoy visiting. One of those amazing museums is the Natural History Museum of Utah. It is located in Salt Lake City at the University of Utah campus.

Recently the Nature of Color exhibit arrived at the NHMU and we were invited to come to check it out. We chose to go on a weekday as a fun Homeschool field trip and I am glad we went early for we ended up staying at the museum for 3 hours. We only left because the kids were hungry, but still, in order to get them to leave without a fuss, my husband and I had to promise to take them back again soon.

The Nature of Color exhibit is well colorful, hands-on, and fun for all ages. In this exhibit, we explored the relationship between color and emotions. They had a fun interactive game that my boys enjoyed playing with another boy who was checking out the exhibit.

Then we learned about color is utilized in everyday life in different cultures. How certain color dyes were rarer so only the very wealthy (in many cases royalty)

We learned about how colors become different colors when layered on top of each other.

How colors reacted to light and how light affects how we see and perceive color.

We learned about colors in the natural world. We live in a world bursting with so many shades and hues of color and how some natural objects can be used to make color dyes.

The kids loved the interactive painting with colors as they danced across the floor and saw the colorful designs appear on the walls.

I love how interactive and hands-on the whole exhibit was. Each room led to the next until it was over all too soon and the kids just wanted to go back through all over again.

If you live in or are visiting the Salt Lake area in the near future I totally recommend taking your family to check out the Nature of Color Exhibit at the Natural History Museum of Utah. You will LOVE it!
