Non-Spoiler "Saftey" Movie Review
Have you heard about Disney’s "Safety" coming to Disney + on December 11th?
Recently I got to watch a special prescreening of Disney’s "Safety" and I absolutely LOVED it!
"Safety: is a powerful movie inspired by the life of Ray McElrathbey (a former Clemson University football safety). McElrathbey (played by Jay Reeves), is a young football athlete who see the possibility to rise above his circumstances and gain a coveted college education thanks to a Football scholarship to Clemson University.
However, soon after the start of school, while he is still adjusting to his heavy coarse load and demands of football troubling circumstances arise at home causing him to step up and take responsibility for raising and caring for his 11-year-old brother Fahmarr (played by Thaddeus J. Mixson). Soon he realises that he is in over his head. How can he maintain his grades, succeed on the field (both necessary to keep his scholarship) and take care of his brother? The truth is he couldn't. Not without the help and support of his team and the community who rise to the occasion (though that brings other challenges)
This story was so powerful. I found myself brought to tears more than once (especially toward the end.) As I watched I also found myself inspired in how to better fulfill my own responsibilities and commitment to my family which sometimes has felt overwhelming these last several months.
Without giving away spoilers, here are a few of the messages that I found in "Safety" that touched me:
Reaching for your dreams is often harder than you realise, but still possible.
Never give up on what you belive in and value.
When you make a commitment you need to stand by it.
Its ok to accept help from others who care about you.
Just because you think you can do it on your own, dosent mean you should.
I am exctied for "Safety" to be releaced on Disney+ this weekend so that i can watch it again. This time with my family. I love that the movie is inspired by real events for that makes it all the more powerful for me, and I know my kids will love it.
So if you are looking for a great movie to watch with your family this weekend I highly recommend it!
