Surprisingly Yummy Donuts in Less Than 10 Minutes

Sharing is caring!

We adore donuts in our household. However, the cost of buying them for the whole family is enough that they are a rare treat.

This last week I saw this Buzzfeed Food video on Facebook showing how you can make donuts with biscuits. I was intrigued. Would they taste like donuts or like some sad imitation? They looked good in the video, but how many times have I tried a recipe from Pinterest or one of those buzzfeed food videos and been vastly disappointed?

Tonight is Monday night, which is our family night. (A night we set aside each week to spend time as a family. We have a gospel lesson, activity, and a treat. It is a special time to bond as a family while reinforcing the teaching of the gospel to our children.)

We had a short lesson on how Jesus taught us the importance of helping others. The kids each shared their favorite bible story of when Jesus helped someone, and then they each said what they could do to help our family.  (both kids said they would be better at helping with the cleaning. Just what every mother loves to hear.)

For the dessert we decided to go ahead and try to make the biscuit donuts.

We used our deep fryer instead of a frying pan for two reasons. 1- I like to control the oil temperature when frying things, and 2- I hate getting splattered. Oil burns take FOREVER to heal. (yes we know this from hard experience.) My husband prepared the oil (setting the temperature to 340 Degrees while I cut the center of the biscuits (making donuts and  donut holes)

When the oil was ready we put the donuts (and holes) in a few at a time. We cooked them for about 2 minutes then flipped them and cooked them for another 2 minutes (until light golden brown) Then we pulled them out and gently pressed them in cinnamon sugar.

Were they any good?

The family all agreed that they tasted wonderful! and the prep and clean up were so quick that we might just have donuts a little more often in our house (just what I need...right?)

Next time I think will try out the recipe from the video for the glaze. I am sure the kids will LOVE that. What is your favorite donut topping?

  1. Mmm...donuts! Love your kids' responses, so sweet 🙂 These look good! My favorite topping is chocolate glaze since I'm addicted to chocolate.
