Have you ever been to Knott's Berry Farm Amusement Park?

Recently we took our family to visit Knott's Berry Farm. Our kids had been so great for us as we traveled through Europe (often visiting places of particular interest for my husband and I like the Parthenon and Stonehenge) that we wanted to go somewhere for them that they would totally enjoy. We also wanted to go somewhere budget friendly. In looking at all the attractions in Southern California we finally decided on Knott's Berry Farm (said to be America's First Theme Park)

I had been about 30 years ago when I was only 5. My husband and kids had never been. However upon looking them up to see what all their Amusement park included we knew it was perfect for what we wanted. When we told our kids they were really excited (especially when we told them that their children's section was snoopy themed. How cool is that?

I am soo glad we went. In fact, we loved our time there soo much we are already planning a return visit for later this Fall! If you are planning on going to Knott's Berry Farm with your kids here are my top 8 tips for getting the most out of your visit!

1. Tickets are way cheaper if you buy them online instead of at the gate. The BEST prices I have found on tickets to Knott's Berry Farm as well as other Southern California attractions is through Get Away Today. (Get Tickets here).

2. Try to Arrive 20 minutes BEFORE the park opens in the morning. Why? Well due to added security measurements the lines to enter Knott's Berry Farm can be long.  Arriving early helps you to be closer to the front of the lines to get in faster. There isn't much shade while waiting in line so if it is a hot day be prepared. Thankfully there are a lot of shady places inside the park.

3. Get a Map of the park. Though a map isn't necessary it does help. We always try to grab a map for any large attraction that we aren't very familiar with s we can see where everything is and plan accordingly. Not only will maps show you where all the attractions are but usually show where restrooms and food areas are as well. You can find maps of Knott's Berry Farm online to print out or grab one there.

4. Stay at a Hotel near the park. We stayed at the Knott's Berry Farm Hotel which is right next door. ( Thankfully we found a great deal  for our stay at this hotel making it the perfect choice.)  We are so glad we did this. Not only is the Knott's Berry Farm Hotel a top notch place to stay with nice bedrooms, and amenities like a pool, splash pad, and gym, but by staying at a hotel close to the park we saved money on parking by walking over to the park. We also found it convenient to take a break part way through the day to go back to our hotel for food and naps for our youngest before heading back to the park for more fun at the park.

5. Make sure to pack plenty of snacks for the day and drinks.
(or have money on hand to buy some) Unless you live nearby Knott's Berry Farm and have a season pass to go as often as you want then you will want to set aside the whole day when visiting this fun Amusement park. because of this you and your kids will get hungry and thirsty during the day. Having tasty travel snacks and refreshing drinks on hand will go a long way toward keeping your child from getting HANGRY.

6. If you are Looking for some Educational Fun head over to Knott's Berry Farm's Ghost Town. Just head straight after entering the park and you will find yourself in the wild wild west. There you and your kids will find a real blacksmith working in his shop, an old one room school house, a museum, a livery, a general store and more. Throughout the Ghost Town, you will find craftsman demonstrating their trade.

7. Keep your tickets in a secure place after entering. Tickets for Knott's Berry Farm are good for the whole day even if you leave the park. When you exit the park the attendant will ask if you are planning on coming back. If you answer yes they will stamp your hand. Then to get back in you just have to show the stamp as well as your ticket. We totally took advantage of this to go back to our hotel to cool off in the middle of the afternoon, eat lunch and let our youngest take a short nap before heading back to the park for the rest of the day.

8. Take advantage Knotts Berry Farm Peanuts Themed Kids Section. If you have young kids,  You will love Camp Snoopy, Knott's Berry Farm's kid's section of their Amusement park. Found to the right of the entrance Camp Snoopy is everything you could hope. Not only do they have lots of fun rides for kids (some have height limits) but they also have lots of trees which provide much-needed shade as you walk along, places to leave your stroller or wagon when taking your kids on rides, and lots of seating areas.

Like I said, Knott's Berry Farm is well worth the time and money to visit as a family. If you are looking for a more budget friendly family vacation that is loads of fun I highly recommend Knott's Berry Farm! (Get tickets here!)
