Top 5 Reasons Why The Best Western Mission Bay is Perfect for Families Visiting San Diego
(we were given a complimentary stay at the Best Western Mission Bay to help facilitate this post. However, as always the views and opinions expressed here are entirely my own. You can read my full disclosure here.)
Have you ever Stayed at The Best Western Mission?
If there is one thing my husband and I have learned in all our recent travels it is the importance of finding the right place to stay. This can be even trickier when traveling with multiple kids. Your choice of where to stay when traveling can make or break your vacation experience. Thankfully on our recent family trip to San Diego, we made the RIGHT choice in accommodations when we booked with the Best Western Mission Bay. We really couldn't have chosen better. We stayed there for a full week (which is a long time for staying at a hotel) and in the end had absolutely no complaints.
Here are our Top 5 reason why we think The Best Western Mission Bay is the Perfect Place to stay on your Next Family Trip to San Diego:
1.The Price
Yes, I admit the price is often the first thing I look at when choosing where to stay. While sometimes on Vacations and accommodations I am willing to splurge, I am still always trying to get the best bang for my buck and I totally found it at the Best Western Mission Bay. They are one of the best-priced hotels in the area (and when teamed with all the amenities they offer really can't be beaten.)
*Tip you can often find special deals and savings when you book directly through the hotel versus through a 3rd party booking site like hotels.com or Expedia. Best Western also offers a rewards program with points earned when booking directly through them. Here is the Direct Link to The Best Western Mission Bay.
2. The Complimentary Hot Breakfast
Food is very important. Especially when traveling with kids. (I don't know about you but my kids get HANGRY when not properly fed.) It can also get quite expensive if you aren't careful. This is why I was soo excited when I saw that The Best Western Mission Bay offered a Complimentary (aka FREE) Hot Breakfast. Not just cold cereal, muffins and bagels. No, they also offer fresh waffles, fruit, juice, and other hot breakfast items that rotate daily (like bacon, eggs, breakfast burritos, french toast, sausage...) My kids were also excited to see they offered cold yogurt and donuts.
Thanks to the hearty Hot breakfast provided by the Best Western Mission Bay we were able to save not only on breakfast food costs but lunch also. (the kids were soo filled with breakfast we only needed to carry with us some healthy snacks as we went around San Diego saving money on lunch as well.) Also thanks to the filling breakfast my kids were more evenly tempered as we did our touristy things.
3.The Location
The Best Western Mission Bay is NOT in downtown San Diego. This is a good thing. Why? Because, while the hotel is close (really just minutes) away from everything you would want to see and do in San Diego, but when you want to go home in the evening you miss all the nasty traffic.
It is also right next to (as in walking distance) from the Mission Bay beaches. We spend more than one evening walking along the beaches and playing at the parks with our kids.
4. Room Amenities
Ok, next to price I always check the Room and hotel amenities before booking. You want where you stay to be comfortable. When traveling with kids it is inevitable that you will find yourself spending time in your hotel room. And I am not just talking about sleeping. A good hotel room will feel like a slightly more exciting home away from home. That is what it was like for us at The Best Western Mission Bay. Here are our top favorite Room Amenities from our stay.
- FREE High-Speed Internet
Since my husband and I work online, we often still have at least some work to do even when traveling. (yeah this blog ladies and gents takes a lot of work. Good thing I love it!) This is why wherever we stay free wifi is a necessity (free high-speed wifi is a plus).
- Mini Fridge, Microwave, and Coffee Pot/Tea Maker
Like the complimentary breakfast, the mini fridge, microwave, and coffee pot/tea maker really helped us save money on food during our trip. One night we had pizza and put the leftovers in the fridge to heat up the next night... We also made cup of soups heating the water in the coffee pot (our kids are crazy about cup of soups). It was also nice to keep fresh fruits and berries and water chilled in the fridge.
- Cable TV
Most of the time when the tv was on, it was our kids watching some Disney shows while my husband and I got some work in on our down time (when not out exploring San Diego). However, we did enjoy a movie or two in the evenings as well. This was definitely a nice amenity to have.
- Clean Comfortable Beds
This was not an amenity specifically listed on their site, but it was something we were greatly appreciative of at the end of a long day. It was nice after longs days seeing everything we could are in San Diego. Having a clean Comfortable bed is the make or break for whether or not we will ever come back after all good sleep is a necessity when traveling with kids.
5.Hotel Amenities
In addition to the great room amenities, The Best Western Mission Bay also has some great general amenities that they offer to their guests. These Amenities really are the icing on the cake for the whole experience of staying there. Here are our top 4 General Amenities offered by the Best Western Mission Bay.
- FREE Parking
I have learned not to take free parking for granted. Especially in California. More often than not hotels now charge for mandatory valet parking. Being the frugal mom that I am, I LOVE it when a hotel offers free self-parking spots.
- Their Pool
After long days exploring San Diego, we loved relaxing with our kids in the private pool found in the center courtyard of the Hotel. Our kids would beg each day for the pool so we kept it as a fun treat at the end of the day.
- Tourist Infomation booth
I love how they had a fully stocked booth filled with fliers and coupons to all the major attractions in and near San Diego that you could browse and take as desired. If you aren't sure of all you want to do on your San Diego trip here is where you can get some great ideas and snag some helpful coupons while you are at it.
- Business Center
More than once I utilized the Computers and printers in their Business cCenterto look up and print out tickets for pre-booked attractions like Sea World and Knottsberry farm. This saved us time and hassle on the days we visited those attractions.
Seriously the Best Western Mission Bay is perfect for families. We will definitely be staying there next time we visit the San Diego area in our travels. If you are planning on visiting San Diego during Kids Free October they are even offering a gift basket with some small goodies for kids under 12 checking in with their parents (2 kids per 1 adult). Isn't that cool?
