Visiting the Charles Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, California

Did you know that Santa Rosa is home to the Charles Schulz Museum?
Last Fall we had the great opportunity for a short last minute Family visit to Santa Rosa, California for 2 days. We loved it there soo much that I decided that I just had to finally write about our experience here for you to see how awesome this museum is.
While my kids and I were looking forward to visiting the Charles Schulz museum due to our love of his famous Peanuts characters (my favorite are Snoopy and Charlie Brown), my husband was excited on a whole new level. You see in addition to being a talented illustrator and Graphic Designer my husband is also a cartoonist. He has always loved cartoons and in Highschool even had a cartoon strip in his school paper. I am so excited that after years of dreaming and preparing he is getting ready to launch his own webcomics later this month!! Anyways, Charles Schulz was one of his Cartoonist heroes that inspired him in his craft. Knowing this, for our first Christmas as a married couple I got him a Charles Schulz biography which mentioned the museum, skating rink & nearby mall that Mr. Shultz would often visit. He has wanted to go there ever since.
The Charles M. Schulz Museum & Research Center is a two-story museum just across the street from Snoopy’s Home Ice at the Redwood Empire Ice Arena and Gift shop. You can spot it by the fun Peanuts statues all around it.
Inside the Museum on the main floor is an awesome 17 x22 foot mural made with 3,500 individual peanuts cartoons. It was pretty awesome to behold.
High on the wall, I loved the carving wall hanging showcasing the evolution of Snoopy. It is cool to see how these icon characters like Snoopy evolve over the years.
It was fun looking at the many cartoons in the glass cases and blown up on the walls as we walked through the rooms on the lower floor.
Upstairs rather than focusing on the cartoons, it was all about the man behind the cartoons. I especially loved seeing Charles Shulz office as well as his personal things.
They also had a fun hands-on room where you could learn how to draw your own cartoons strips.
My husband found a guest drawing pad where he drew a cute cartoon of our kids to show that we were there.
Even my daughter (who takes after my husband with her love of drawing) was inspired to draw in her little notebook.
I adore places that are fun, educational and inspiring. Which is why I highly recommend checking out the Charles Schulz Museum on your next visit to Sonoma County, California. You won't regret it!
