Melt in Your Mouth: Crock Pot French Dip Sandwiches
I have been in love with French Dip sandwiches ever since my mother introduced me to them when I was a child.

When I found out early in my marriage that my husband had never eaten one I had to immediately rectify that. Of course, he LOVED it. Our mutual love and appreciation of this ingenious sandwich creation prompted me to learn how to make them myself. (for it is much too expensive to indulge in these beauties via fast food very often.
As I normally do when looking for a recipe I pulled out my tablet and simultaneously googled it (while also searching through Pinterest.)
I found a recipe for crockpot french dip sandwiches that sounded (and from the picture looked) good. I ended up modifying it a bit due to ingredients on hand. The experiment was a success. The only problem? I forgot to save the recipe. This meant that the next time I went to make French dip sandwiches I had to start looking for recipes all over again. This time, however, after looking through a handful of recipes (that were similar, and yet different) I decided to just create my own recipe. In the end, my family and I agree that this new recipe was even better than the one I had used before but lost.
Prep Time:
15 Min
Cook Time :
1-2 Hours High followed by 8-10 Low
Ingredients:
- 2-4 lb Roast
- ½ cup soy sauce
- ½ Large onion
- 3 large garlic cloves
- 1 ½ tsp Italian seasoning
- (Salt and pepper)
Directions:
- Sear both sides of the Roast (by placing it in a frying pan on high for a few minutes on each side.)
- Place the roast in the crockpot.
- Chop the onion, and dump in the crockpot with the soy sauce pressed garlic cloves, Italian seasoning, and a sprinkling of salt and pepper.
- Add water till the roast is covered.
- Turn the crockpot on High for 1-2 hours then down to low for another 8-10 hours.
- Once it is done cooking (the roast will be falling apart. Pull the roast out and shred it (and set aside for a moment). Take the juice and send it through a blender to puree the onions and seasonings) then put back in the crockpot with the shredded roast.)
Serve and Enjoy!
Traditionally French dip sandwiches are served on hogi buns and with a slice or two of Swiss cheese. put some of the Au Jus sauce (from the crock pot) into a small bowl to dip your sandwich in as you eat. ENJOY!
