For my craft, I got Wood and Easter, so I decided to make something fun to add to my kid’s Easter baskets. I wanted a project that was simple yet entertaining, and that’s how I came up with my own Easter Tic-Tac-Toe Boards!

If you’d like to make your own, I’ve included a full tutorial along with a Free SVG cut file for you to use. For this project, I used my xTool S1 40W Laser. While you can use any xTool laser, keep in mind that cut settings may vary depending on your machine.

I made my Tic-Tac-Toe board with 3mm Basswood because:

  • It cuts easily and cleanly.
  • It takes well to paint and stain.
  • It is cost-effective—a huge plus!

The board consists of two layers of wood, plus cut-out words on top and individual game pieces. Each board measures 5.14 inches wide by 5 inches high, making them the perfect size to tuck into Easter baskets. Since I used 12×12-inch wood boards, I was able to cut two complete Tic-Tac-Toe boards per sheet!

Yield: 2 Boards per 12x12in Wood Sheet

Download the SVG for the Easter Tic-Tac-Toe BoardHERE

Upload the file into xTool Creative Space Design software.

Set the Material: for 3mm Basswood and then click the target button next to measuring to measure the distance for the laser. (This is very important when using risers or the honeycomb base which is recommended for best cut results.

*Set cutting parameters (for everything except the Tic-Tac-Toe words):

  • Power: 100
  • Speed: 12
  • Passes: 1

Set engraving parameters (for Tic-Tac-Toe words):

  • Use default engraving settings.
  • Place your 12x12in 3mm Basswood into your Laser. (I use the honeycomb base for best cutting results. If you don't have the honeycomb base make sure to use the triangle risers.)

Mark the Processing Area of your sheet of wood. Then move the design image into the marked area. (You can do 2 Tic Tac Toe boards/pieces per sheet of wood.)

    Select Framing option

    Start the cutting/engraving process.

Once finished, lightly sand to clean up any burn residue.
(often found around words, edges and on the back.)

    Assembly & Finishing Touches:

Glue together the two layers of the board. (I used spray on Gorilla glue which works great for wood projects. You just spay the wood, let cure for 1 minute then press it firmly together. )

Double-layer the game pieces (bunnies & eggs) and glue them together.

Paint the bunny and egg pieces, along with the engraved Easter word. (You can use spray paint to paint the pieces which would probably be easier for the fine details on the word Easter. However, I chose to paint by hand with acrylic pain I had on hand. If you paint by hand use a sponge brush for the main painting and a fine tip brush for the finer details like the inside edges of the word. )

Glue the "Easter" word on top of the Tic-Tac-Toe board. & then Spray everything with a clear sealant to protect the finish.

    Notes

*My settings are based on my xTool S1 40W. If using a different laser, adjust the settings accordingly.

    Make It Your Own!

I love how this board turned out! To make it even more special, you can personalize it by engraving your child’s name or a special message on the back. You can also paint each board in different color schemes for a custom look.

Why I Love Crafting with My xTool Lasers

I’ve collected a few different xTool laser models over the years, and honestly—I love every single one of them! Each machine brings something unique to the table, and the more I craft with them, the more impressed I am. While diode lasers do have a few material limitations, they’re incredibly versatile, and the real magic lies in how you choose to use them. I use mine most often for wood projects, but I’ve also created amazing things with acrylic, metal, stone, and even food! From intricate ornaments to personalized gifts and custom home decor, the possibilities are endless.

What I truly love is that xTool isn’t just a company that makes laser machines—they’re a creative partner for the long haul, empowering makers like me to turn ideas into reality again and again.
