So my husband just designed these adorable Harry Potter Box People to make using a Cricut.
Several weeks ago my husband came to me and told me that for fun he designed a 3d box character that could be made using the Cricut (Print & Cut). The best part was that this box person required no glue or tape to assemble, all the pieces hooked together. So, of course, I had to pull out my then Explore Air 2 to try out his design. And guess what it worked!! We had to tweak the design just slightly and I asked if he could create an SVG for the scoring lines (that I could just match up over the Print & Cut Box person design, attach, then change into score lines so I wouldn’t have to create each individual scoreline for the character. He said no problem. Then I asked if He could design me a Harry Potter Box People Set. Being the wonderful husband that he is, he agreed!!!
It took my husband a few weeks to get the designs just right for the Harry Potter Box People Set but when he showed them to me I couldn’t contain my squeal of glee! I couldn’t wait to pull out my new Cricut Maker (& Scoring Wheel) to make them. He not only created the character but also a little box item for each character (like a Hedwig for Harry, Scabbers for Ron, Hogwarts School books for Hermione, a Dragon egg for Hagrid…)
Like I said you can make these Box people using an Explore Cricut & Scoring Tool, but as I soon found out using the Cricut Maker & Scoring Wheel worked even better to get those sharp fold lines. For the Step by Step Tutorial keep reading:

Instructions
Instructions Part 1 (Design Space) :
Download Harry Potter Box People Design Files -->HERE
** Each HP Character will have both PNG Files (to use with Cricut Print & Cut Feature) as well as Score Line SVG files. **I recommend doing 1 character at a time in a new Design Space Canvas. Trust me it will make it easier for you.
Start by uploading the colored PNG files for the character. (Each Character has 2 pages except Dumbledore who has 3 due to his Hat.) Make sure to select Complex for the image type.
Then select Save as a Print and Cut image.
Once you have uploaded all the Character PNGs, Upload the Score Line SVG files. **Make sure to select Cut image. (later we will be changing them to score lines.)
Insert Then Carefully line up the scorelines over the Character design. Once lines up select both layers and click to attach.
Click on the little cut icon to change the lines from cut lines to score lines.
Now it is time to size your design to fit in the Print & Cut space. The key is sizing the whole character at the same time so the pieces still fit together. To do this click select all, then shrink the image by dragging the double arrows (bottom right corner) ** According to the Cricut website "The maximum print area size for Print Then Cut projects is 9.25" x 6.75". If your printable image exceeds these dimensions, Design Space will display a warning message to reduce the image size to less than 9.25" x 6.75."
*Or you can manually edit each item manually by selecting it than editing the size boxes. Here are the final sizes I did for each Character.
Dumbledore:
Head - 9.155 wide x 6.662 high, Body - 9.049 wide x 6.632 high, Hat - 8.748 wide x 6.609
Voldemort:
Head - 9.214 wide x 6.618, Body - 9.191 wide x 6.736 high
Hagrid:
Head - 9.188 wide x 6.524, Body - 9.06 wide x 6.613 high
Snape:
Head - 9.215 wide x 6.618, Body - 9.232 wide x 6.618 high
Harry:
Head - 9.159 wide x 6.578, Body - 9.122 wide x 6.695 high
Ron:
Head - 9.187 wide x 6.598 high, Body - 9.15 wide x 6.716 high
Hermione:
Head - 9.282 wide x 6.667 high, Body - 9.245 wide x 6.785 high
Instructions Part 2 (Assembly):
(Print, Score, Cut, Fold & Assemble)
Click Make it and send your first page to your Printer.
Select Cardstock for Intricate cuts as your material
Insert the Scoring Wheel into your Maker, then place your printed cardstock on a standard grip mat and load into your Maker to start cutting.
Carefully remove the cut design from your mat using the spatula in the essential toolkit.
Carefully fold on all the score lines.
Match letters on tabs and cut lines to assemble head, body, arms, and feet.
Hook the body into the head, arms and feet into the body (and for Dumbledore the hat & beard into the head) by placing the non-folded tabs into matching cuts.
Notes
**While all the tabs do fit into the cut marks sometimes on the small ones (like with the arms or accessories) it can get a bit tricky. My husband never had any problems, but I guess my fingers are chunkier so I occasionally had a hard time assembling. When that happened, I found that if I carefully cut off the corners of the offending tabs then the slid in easier.

Once you get your first box person done the rest are really quite easy. It does take a bit of time to make these Harry Potter Box people but the end result is super cute. My kids love playing with them. My daughter especially loves little Hedwig. When we aren’t playing with our little box people, we like to display them in our front room on our piano.
p.s. Though these box people don’t require adhesive to assemble, if you (or your kids are going to be handling them a lot and you want them extra sturdy you can add glue (via gluestick to the tabs before you stick them into their slots for a stronger hold.

I love you and your husband for this. My daughter's turning 11 in feb and planning a HP themed birthday, but I don't have a cricut machine. Is there a plain printable? Thank you so much!

I can put up a printable version but you would have to cut it out carefully and probably use an exact blade to cut some of the spots.

The instant download is for a compressed RAR file that contains several SVG cut files. You need to use a standard WinZip program (which is free online if you don't already have it) to open the compressed file and extract all the cut files to use.
