DIY Hogwarts Themed Trunk or Treat

Sharing is caring!

Are you looking for a fun theme to decorate your car for your upcoming Trunk or Treat?

I have to admit that I love the practice of Trunk or Treats (especially in areas where it is not as safe for your kids to go our trick or treating.  For those who haven’t heard about trunk or treating it is where a bunch of friends or neighbors decorate their car/van’s trunks and get together in a parking lot so their kids can trick or treat in a safe fun environment.

The really fun part is seeing all the fun decorated trunks.  However, I like Halloween costumes, it is fun to switch up your Trunk’s decorations each year.  Being a huge Harry Potter Fan I thought it would be fun to do a Hogwarts themed Trunk or Treat.

For the backdrop of my trunk, I hung up a black tablecloth and black netting that I got at the dollar store.

The Hogwarts Banner is part of my Free Harry Potter Party Printable set –> Found  Here <–.

I made the Flying Keys last year with my Cricut for our Harry Potter Christmas. Get the tutorial and FREE SVG cut files –> HERE <–

The Snitch and Wand were gifts from my sister. She won them along with some Harry Potter Glasses in an HP competition we did together last year.   **I do have authentic wands from Universal as well as some homemade ones  (Find the tutorial here) but in the end, I went with the inexpensive plastic one since it was bigger and I didn’t worry if it got damaged.

For the packages, I just wrapped empty boxes in Brown Craft Paper and tied them with string then used tape to stick the spider to the sides. and sat a stuffed owl from Michaels on top.

I love the atmosphere that the electronic candles and Harry Potter books gave. You can find some inexpensive electric candle sets on Amazon –> HERE <–. If you don’t have the Books yet you can get them –> Here <–.

For the candy bucket, we used an old plastic cauldron we got for Halloweeyearsrs ago. You can find them all over.

The Decorative Owl I borrowed from my other sister. She bought it at Michaels a couple years ago at Halloween time. I totally wish I had as well. Now I hope they bring them back so I can get one.

For the final touch in our Hogwarts themed Trunk, I had to have a sorting hat. I ended up borrowing one from my sister. She just got it this year from Target. If they are sold out there you can also get them online from Amazon –> HERE <–

One of the things I loved about this Trunk or Treat theme (beyond how totally awesome it looked) was how easy it was to set up and take down.  The longest part was wrapping the boxes and that didn’t take that much time. I think that if I do this theme again next year I might add some potion bottles as well as maybe a flying broom…hmmm the possibilities.
