DIY Mega Bubble Wands

Sharing is caring!

Learn how to make Epic Mega Bubbles with these easy to make Mega Bubble Wands!

There are 2 key elements to making those Epic Mega Bubbles you have seen. The first is a good bubble solution. There are a lot of bubble solutions out there. However, most don't work well. Not for Mega bubbles.  You need a solution that makes strong bubbles if you want to be able to make mega bubbles. (click here for my tried and true Mega Bubble Solution.) The second Key element is a good bubble wand.

Thankfully making the wands isn't very hard. You just need the right materials. We helped our kids make these wands to sell at a few local kids entrepreneur markets this summer along with containers of premade Mega Bubble Solution.

Materials Needed:

  • 2 wood dowels (We used the ⅝  in dowels from Wal-Mart.)
  • Cotton (cooking, butchers) twine **I got mine in the kitchen section at Bed Bath & Beyond
  • 2  1 in (2.5 cm) or 13/16in) Small screw eyes
  • Teal Paint

For the Wand Labels:

Directions:

  • Remove the sticker labels on dowels.
*We used a blow dryer to help take them off then got the stick off by using rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab.

  • Paint the Dowels. (We painted them for 2 reasons; 1- Painting the wood dowels helps the wands weather better, and 2- Painted wands look nicer.)

*We used outdoor semi-gloss paint (at Lowes) since we were also painting wood crates (to use as their bubble stand) and we wanted the wands to match. However, you can also use acrylic craft paint for the wands.) To paint the wands we used cheap foam brushes.

  • Screw a  screw eye into one end of each dowel.

  • Insert the cotton twine through the opening of both of the screw eyes and tie the twine in a tight knot making a large circle.

For the final touch on the Bubble wands, we used vinyl to put Mega Bubble wand label on the bottom of one of the dowels. We chose Orange since it contrasted with the teal so well and added that final touch of professional that I love to have with homemade crafts.

For the "Mega Bubble Wand" label:

  • Set your Cricut Explore Air 2 to Vinyl and Cut
  • Weed excess vinyl from cut design.

  • Used the scraper tool (found in your essential toolkit) to apply transfer tape and remove the vinyl backing

  • Cut into individual labels and apply to each bubble wand set.

These bubble wands work great (even for younger kids) when paired with my Mega Bubble Solution. To use just dip the wand in the bucket of bubble solution, and lift slowly holding both dowels close together. Then slowly spread the dowels apart making the twine circle look like a smiley face. If there is no breeze then walk backward to create the air current needed to blow the bubbles. It takes a few tries to get used to making bubbles with these wands but the results are fantastic!
