Turn your Nintendo Switch into a VR experience with the Labo VR Kit!
A few days ago my family was invited to come and check Nintendo's Labo kit that they would be releasing in a few days (Friday, April 12th) Of course we said yes! Our family LOVES Nintendo and in fact, we just upgraded to the Switch as our main gaming console at Christmas.
Nintendo Labo kits are special kits that you assemble yourself (out of pre-cut, and socred sturdy cardboard and rubber bands that work with the Switch for that Extra gaming experience. Like a car driving set up that allows you to race with an actual steering wheel and physical pedal. The new Labo VR kit takes allows you to turn your Nintendo Switch into a full VR experience. The Labo VR kit comes with multiple VR interfaces you can construct. Each one takes a couple of hours to fully assemble (you are given step by step assembly instructions via the switch when you put in the software. But once assembled are easy to use and quite durable. (which is a good thing considering it is geared toward kids.)
For this prelaunch event, the VR kits were already fully assembled so that after learning about how it works (via a well-done presentation) we got to just have fun trying it out.
Since VR is not recommended for kids under seven we old brought our oldest two kids with us. However, I am happy to note that each interface has the ability to have the VR lenses removed so that you can still experience the fun interactive game in 2D by looking on the Switch tablet screen. This way even your younger kids can enjoy the Labo kit.
My son's favorite VR interface was the blaster. I mean what little boy dosen't like to shoot things. lol.
My husband loved doing 3D drawings with the elephant looking construct.
And my daughter loved Flying the bird and taking underwater photos.
In addition to the main games that come designed to be used with each VR construct, the VR kit also comes with 64 mini-games designed as well as a program where you can modify any of those mini-games or actually create your own. That's right, this kit enables your kids to learn how to do basic programming (if I do this, then this will happen) and actually make and save their own games for your family to enjoy!
We only had a short time to try out the Labo VR and by the end, the kids were begging us to get the kit when it came out. My husband and I are seriously considering it since we can see the possibilities not only for good family fun, but to also use in our homeschool (you know that whole programming part!)
