Interactive and Fun Learning with Osmo
(I was given a complimentary Base and Coding with Awbie Game by Osmo to facilitate this review. However, the views and opinions expressed are entirely my own. You can read my full disclosure here.)
Have you heard of Osmo?
When Osmo, recently reached out to me asking if I would be interested in trying out the Osmo with my children (to write an as always honest review about it here on my blog) I couldn't say yes soon enough. Why?, because from the moment I first learned of Osmo several months ago I was seriously intrigued. I am all about hands on learning that is fun. The reason I love this kind of learning is that I have seen that the more children interact with learning (aka hands on) and the more they have fun while doing it, the more they retain what they are learning.

What is needed to use the Osmo:
- The Osmo Base Kit
- An Osmo Game
- Free Osmo Game app (there is a different app for each game)
- An Apple iPad
How it works:
- Download the free game app that corresponds with your Osmo game (In my case Coding with Awbie)
- Set your iPad in your Osmo Base and place the sensor piece over the front side camera.
- Pull out your game pieces
- Load up the game app and play according to instructions.
Our Experience:
Setting up the Osmo for the first time (and every time after this) was fast and easy. Which was good, since as soon as I unboxed the Osmo, my children couldn't wait for me to get it set up so they could try it out.
Like I said earlier, the game we got was Coding with Awbie. in this game the children place coding command disks in front of the iPad and sensor. These command disks tell the fun loveable Awbie character where to move and what to do to help him get all the yummy strawberries. While playing this fun game my kids are learning logic skills, problem-solving as well as sequencing and yes the fundamentals of coding. How cool is that?
We set up a character profile for each of our older two children (aged 5 & 7) so they could each go at their own pace through the game. at the start of the game, our children were prompted in how to use the Coding Command disks to do simple movements and actions. Then as they progress in the game they learn how to do more and more complex commands. The more complex the command sequences your child uses (by looking ahead in the game) the higher the points the child gets.
So what do my children think about the Osmo after using it for the last two weeks? They LOVE IT! To make the Osmo Coding with Awbie experience even better we celebrated by making homemade Strawberry Pie as a family (get the Strawberry Pie recipe here) Seriously they ask to play all the time and are now begging for my husband and me to get some more Osmo games. Which I am totally open to doing since I have been seeing how much my children have been learning while using the Osmo. And let's face it, I am all for anything that encourages my kids to love learning. The only problem is in deciding which one we want to get.

My first time hearing of Osmo, but it appears pretty nice! I like the design. The best thing is that it seems fun and educative at the same time! This could be a great product for my golf partner's children. Gonna share this with him! Thank you for your post.
I'm glad you found my review helpful. My kids really love the Osmo and they have some other awesome games for Math, Spelling, art logic and more.
