Are you excited about Disney's Mary Poppins Returns?

Mary Poppins has long been one of my favorite movies. I Music and the Magic entranced me from the first.  I am not the only one in my family. As the story goes, after watching Mary Poppins when it first came out, my father (then a young boy) wanted to fly like Mary Poppins so he borrowed his mother's umbrella, climbed onto their roof, opened the umbrella and jumped off... Thankfully he didn't break anything (or worse). Though I am told he was limping when he disappointedly hid the broken umbrella so no one would know what he did.

When I first heard that Disney was coming out with a NEW Mary Poppins Movie I was both exccited and a but nurvous. So of course, when I was invited to go to a pre-screening of Mary Poppins Returns I couldn't say no.

Even Better, I was able to take my 8-year-old daughter with me. I am soo glad we went, for the movie was Fantastic! All the actors (especially Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins) did an exceptional job. The movie truly had that golden age feel.

In the original movie, Mary Poppins came to help the banks family who were a hot mess. The Dad was so focused on work he had lost sight on why he was working (namely his family.)The mom was so caught up in her needy causes she also lost sight of the neediest cause of all (namely her children). And the children starved for real love, attention and tender care made it their mission to scare off the nannies who were poor substitutes for the parents they needed. Mary Poppins, really had her work cut out for her but was totally up for the challenge.

Mary Poppins Returns is not a reboot. It is a sequal that takes place 20 years after the first movie. Once again the Banks Family is in need of help that only the magical and practical Mary Poppins can give.

Michael is a struggling widower with 3 children. He has set aside his art to work at the same bank his father once worked at in order to pay the bills. However, due to getting behind on payments on a loan he took out to pay for bills incoured with his wife's death, the Banks family faces the prospect of losing their home. Meanwhile, the children have been forced to grow up to quickly in order to help their father cope with the loss of their mother.

Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins, Lin-Manuel Miranda as Jack, with Pixie Davies as Annabel Banks, Nathanael Saleh as John Banks and Joel Dawson as Georgie Banks when they step into the animated world found in their Royal Doulton Bowl.

In this movie every fun excursion, every song, and every magical moment help the children learn the value of imagination, creativity, thinking outside the box, seeing beyond the surface of things, and that anything is possible even the impossible. All of which are the tools they need to overcome their seemingly insurmountable trials and find strength, hope, and happiness, that has long since vanished from their lives.

Like I said the movie was fantastic. Both my daughter and I can't wait to go see it again. This time with the rest of of our family. Maybe we will do it over Christmas break.
