Top 6 Travel Apps Which Can Save You Time and Money
Take the Stress out of traveling by utilizing powerful Travel Apps!
I travel a lot with my family. My husband and I agreed that the best thing we could give our kids was the gift of the world. We love introducing our children to new places, cultures, experiences. However as any traveler can tell you, travel can be stressful at times. This is especially true for families traveling. My husband and I have found that the key to stress-free (or at least less stressful) traveling is having the right tools. Thanks to smart phones many of those tools are easy to have and use. During our travels, we have found certain Apps way more helpful than others.
Of all the Apps we have used during our travels, there are the top 6 tried and true travel apps that we have found can save you a lot of time and money on your travels.
Google Maps:
In addition to giving accurate directions, Google Maps tells you how long till you reach your destination taking into account traffic (Goodness know how they are so accurate with that information). Even better you can put settings like the best route that avoids toll bridges. This is a great feature when traveling in areas that have lots of toll bridges.
Gas buddy:
Have you ever been driving in an area you are familiar with when you notice your gas tank is almost empty? Gas buddy is such a great app. In it, you can search for Gas Stations by distance (which is helpful for when you are in desperate need of gas quick) or by Price (for when your car gas is low but you have enough to be more choosy about the price.)
Uber:
Uber is great for when traveling without a car. When you request a Uber you type in your destination (GPS shows your current location) then Uber lets you know how close a driver is, and the cost to your destination. It also gives you the option of choosing a cab and paying via Uuber. We used Uber multiple time while traveling in Europe and it worked great every time.
Airbnb:
We got well acquainted with Airbnb this last year. The up and down, the ins and outs. What we discovered is that it can be an amazing money saving option for places to stay. Especially when traveling with multiple kids. Airbnbs offer that home away from home experience when traveling at prices that compete with and sometimes beat out hotels. Having this APP makes finding an Airbnb on the fly without having to stop and find a computer. Sign up for an Airbnb account here.
Skype:
The hardest part of traveling is being away from loved ones so much. However, thanks to Skype my kids get to see and talk to their loved ones on a regular basis. Best of all, it doesn't cost anything to Video Skype. You just need a wifi connection. Did you know that in addition to their free video option, that you can purchase a phone number to make and receive calls for just $6.99 a month?
Google Translate:
This app comes in very handy if you are traveling through a foreign country as we learned when we were in Greece. This app is great for translating words in a different language (like signs, food labels etc) if you want to use the app when off line then you can download the language. Then you just use your phone to scan what you need to translate and bam! It's not 100% but does work great over all.
Like I said when traveling (especially when traveling with kids) having the right tools, or in this case the right app it makes all the difference in the world. Do you have a favorite travel app, not on this list? Let us know in the comments.
