White Chocolate Gourmet Popcorn

Sharing is caring!

Are you looking to learn how to make your own white chocolate gourmet popcorn?

Have you ever noticed that gourmet popcorn kernels are different than the normal type of popcorn you make at home? They are more puffy and rounded and have less of a crunchy shell. That’s because it is a different type of popcorn used in gourmet popcorn mixes. Mushroom Popcorn to be exact.

Using the right kind of popcorn really makes a difference when making caramel or chocolate gourmet popcorn. Seriously, I have tried using my regular popcorn at home to do these fancy popcorns before and they just haven’t turned out right. The popcorn got soggy/chewy and deflated when I poured the topping on them.

When I found out the key was using mushroom popcorn I went and bought some to try out. It cooked up the same way as my normal popcorn but like I said earlier the kernels had less shell when popped and were big, fluffy, and round in shape. When I coated them with White Chocolate they stayed firm and kept their shape well.

White Chocolate Gourmet Popcorn

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup Mushroom Popcorn
  • 3 Tablespoons Oil
  • 12/3 Cup Melted White Chocolate
  • (Optional) 1/4 cup Crushed Peppermint
  • (Optional) 2 Cups of M&Ms
  • (Optional) 1/4 Cup Melted Milk or Dark Chocolate

Instructions

Pour oil into a large pot on medium heat & add 3 kernels of popcorn and place lid on the pot.

Once the 3 kernels have popped you know the oil is hot enough.

Add the rest of the popcorn into the pot, put the lid back on, and then constantly shuffle the pot on the stove (to keep the popcorn from burning as it pops) until the popping slows down.

Pour popped popcorn into a large bowl.

Melt White Chocolate and pour over popcorn.

Place another large bowl over the top to shake and evenly coat popcorn with chocolate (If you use a spoon or spatula to try to stir the chocolate and popcorn you will end up smooshing popcorn.)

Pour coated popcorn onto 2 large (lined) cookie sheets and carefully spread the popcorn out until it is in a single layer.

(Option) Drizzle melted (milk/dark) chocolate over popcorn, add crushed peppermint or M&Ms

Let popcorn fully cool, break up popcorn, and enjoy!

I love how these white chocolate gourmet popcorn turned out and my kids are begging me to make more (since I gave most of ours away) Next time I want to experiment and learn how to make that crunchy caramel coating to make my own crunch and much/cracker jack popcorn with peanuts and toffee pieces mixed in.
