Utah is getting a Brand New DI Store!
If you live in Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington. you know how awesome DI or Deseret Industries are for finding awesome deals on Clothes, Books, Shoes, Household items etc. If you don't live in one of the above-mentioned states DI is basically a humanitarian Thrift store (Think Goodwill) where you can donate used goods and buy them for killer prices. I can't tell you ow many deals I have found over the years shopping at DI.

That's why I was sooo excited to learn that a new DI was opening in Springville Utah! This last week my husband and I were invited to come on a tour of the new DI and learn more about their mission and operations. Here are some highlights of things I learned:
-
- Over the last several years di has just replaced stores. Springville is the first NEW store opening in a new area.
-
- The store will employ 100-120 associates once fully up and going in a few months (already have about 90)
-
- About 2500 pieces of clothing come out a day. Couple hundred books (about 3500 items total out a day) they rotate through inventory each day. Items typically last on floor for 4-6 weeks.
-
- After the 4-6 Week any unsold items are either Sold to 3rd party companies, donated, and in extreme cases thrown away (they try to keep trashed items to a minimum).
-
- DI runs a community grant project where they give certificates to schools to give students or communities to give families in need to come and get needed items for free.
-
- In addition to the store, DI also has an amazing program helping people in need get back on their feet and give training/education they need to get jobs to provide for their family.
-
- For each person who enters their job training program they individual assessment. Then not only do they pay them hourly while they work, they also will pay for their vocation/education training. Will even provide/pay for English language learning for immigrants/refugees.
- The store and inventory and money earned are a means to the end of helping lots of people.
When I was allowed to walk through the new store this last week it took all my discipline to look but not touch. Update So I was there bright and early on Thursday Morning. 30 minutes before the store officially opened there was already a line all the way around the back of the building. Thankfully the store was stocked with sooo much great stuff at killer deals. I spent only $64.75 and walked away with 2 pairs of jeans, 2 tops, a maxi skirt, 2 jackets (one a fitted denim) a pair of like new heels, 2 adult Halloween costumes, season 1 of modern family on dvd, a bunch of board books, a cut glass plate, a 9x13 glass dish and a glass candle holder.
