DIY Graduation Cap Gift Boxes (with Free Cricut Cut File)

Sharing is caring!

Looking for a fun Graduation gift idea? How about these fun Graduation Cap Gift Box filled with money, candy & confetti?

It’s May, which means the end of the school year is fast approaching along with it Graduation time for many bright young minds. To help our graduating loved ones start on their new post-graduation adventure it is customary to offer a gift. Like these fun Graduation cap boxes, I made with my Cricut Explore Air 2 and filled with treats and cash.

Graduation, whether from High School or College is quite the accomplishment to be celebrated. Heck, I am now of the opinion that it’s a good thing to even celebrate graduating from Kindergarten and Elementary School. All it takes is one look at the pride of accomplishment on the bright young graduating faces to show that. Graduation is a closing of one door and an opening of another.

When it comes to gifts I like to be fun and practical (yes it is possible to be both.  Personally, I love to give some money (since living in the real world can be expensive. However, in my opinion, just giving cash or a gift card looks tacky and unimaginative. And so I thought of designing a Graduation Cap Gift Box to put the money (rolled up like diplomas) in along with some candy.

I created the Graduation Cap Gift Boxes in Cricut Design Space and I have to say that I just LOVE LOVE how the design turned out. Even better was how quick and easy the assembly turned out.

Instructions

Open the Design Space File for the Graduation Cap Boxes. -->HERE

The file is ready to make so just make sure your Cricut is set to Cardstock, load your first sheet (according to the color indicated and start cutting.

The Bottom of the Box

Fold all the tabs upward on the circle piece

Wrap the thinner shorter strip around the circle gluing to the tabs(there will be a bit of length to overlap the strip to glue together.

The Box Top:

Glue the two square pieces together (this gives a sturdier top)

Then wrap the larger stip around the finished bottom to get the right size for the top part of the box gluing the leftover lengths together. (both end taps cover each other)

Fold the tabs inward and glue them to the square top. (If you need help keeping the circular shape of the box when gluing the strip to the square top, you can put the bottom into the top part first.)

Glue tassel to the top with the circle on top.

**For the inside gift place, Dollar Bills rolled up (and secured with a small elastic band) to look like diplomas along with small candies and confetti.

Notes

To make the confetti just open the Design Space File for the Graduation Cap & Diploma Confetti-->HERE<-- and cut out of the black and yellow cardstock scraps from the boxes. Unfortuantely the confetti designs are not free, although they are included in Cricut Access.

Come to think of it these boxes would also make cute graduation party favors filled with random candy.  Though these boxes have multiple parts they are actually quite easy to assemble. I just love how they turned out.

I am so sorry about that. One of the assets (the tassle) that I added to the hat box I designed was free back when I first designed this but looks like now is only free with Cricut access.

I have deleted that tassle and created my own so now the cricut design space file for the graduation hat is once again totally free.

Hello. Love the file for the cap and confetti but can’t get it to load in design space. I had made this last year for a family friend and now my son is graduating and I’d love to make it for him as well. Thanks.

There have been some issues with project links since Cricut updated to online. Here are the design space links according to Cricut's site. I'll make sure they are up to date in the post.
