DIY Patriotic Kid’s Shirts (With FREE SVG Cut Files)

Sharing is caring!

Are you looking to make some fun custom patriotic kid’s shirts for your family this year?

With the 4th of July coming up I thought it would be fun to make some coordinating patriotic kids shirts for each of my 3 children.  One of the things I love about my Cricut Explore Air 2 is making custom shirts for my family

Not only are they really easy to make using Cricut’s Iron-On material they are also quick to make.  These shirts took me less than 30 minutes start to finish to make.  The longest part was weeding the fireworks on my daughter’s shirt since I thought it would look cool using glitter Iron-on which is a bit harder to weed intricate The end result was totally worth it though.

Originally I was going to use all Glitter Iron-On for the shirts however after I cut the Decorative images, I decided to also use some lite Iron-on to make the glitter Iron-on designs pop more.

This tutorial is for making these 3 Patriotic Kid's Shirts Using Cricut Iron-on

Instructions

  • Upload into Design Space and size design for the shirt you are putting them on.
  • Next for each design click to ungroup and then attach the words, then attach the designs (when applicable) This will make sure that you keep the formatting of the design when the Cricut cuts it out. **You will also need to make sure that the blue of the stars and blue from daddy's Fire Cracker is different so you can cut the stars out of blue glitter Iron-on and the words from blue lite iron-on
  • Make sure to click the Mirror Image button for all the Mats before cutting them out.

**For the regular Iron-on you can just set your Cricut to the Iron-on setting. For the glitter Iron-on, make sure to set your machine to Custom and select Glitter Iron-on from the custom materials list.

  • Place Iron-on shiny side down on the mats to cut.
  • Weed using weeding tool and tweezers found in the Weeding Tool Set. **Most of the designs weed very easily. However, the fireworks will take patience due to how intricate they are.
  • Place shirt on EasyPress Mat ** The EasyPress Mat is Cricut's newest tool to use with their Easypress. It shields your work surface from damaging heat (so you can use your table without damaging it) It helps eliminate moisture and directs the heat (from the Easypress) to your Iron-On Design creating a better meld to your fabric!
  • Preheat the area of your shirt that you will be putting your design (5-10 seconds) then place the first color of Iron-On where you want it on your shirt.

EasyPress Ironing Instructions

  • For the Glitter Iron-on on 100% Cotton shirt set your EasyPress to 340 F and preheat for 5 Seconds. Press Iron-On design for 20 seconds on the front of the garment and then 15 seconds on the back of the garment (leaving Liner on) using medium pressure. Warm Peel.
  • For the Standard Iron-on on 100% Cotton shirt set your EasyPress to 3015 F and preheat for 5 Seconds. Press Iron-On design for 30 seconds on the front of the garment and then 15 seconds on the back of the garment (leaving Liner on) using medium pressure. Warm Peel
  • Regular Iron Instructions (for those who don't have an EasyPress Yet.)
  • Set your iron to the Cotton/Linen setting (generally the highest temperature setting). Make sure the steam setting is OFF for steam irons.
  • Place the weeded image, liner side up, onto the preheated material.* Apply medium pressure with the iron for 25-30 seconds.
  • Flip the material over and apply medium pressure with the iron to the back of the material for an additional 25-30 seconds.*
  • Let cool 1-2 minutes. Remove lining.

Notes

**When I originally made this shirt I had the original EasyPress however I have since upgraded to the EasyPress 2 and highly recomend that one.

I love how the shirts turned out. I can’t wait to give them to my kids to wear on the 4th of July.  They have already seen them and they love them! #MomWin! Which one is your favorite?
