DIY Sewn Fabric Pumpkins

Decorate this year with your own DIY Fabric Pumpkins.

This year Fairfield World is celebrating the 80th birthday of its famous Poly-fil stuffing. To celebrate I am teaming up with Fairfield and several other crafty bloggers to do fun Fall DIY projects that use their amazing poly-fill stuffing.
For my project, I decided to make fun DIY Sewn Fabric Pumpkins with Cinnamon stick stems.

Now full disclosure. I am not a very experienced sewer. So for this project, I asked my friend Paige for help. I apologize if my tutorial instructions arent as polished as other sewing bloggers. Hopefully, they are still clear enough for you to follow along and make your own fun sewn pumpkins. If anything isn't clear comment and I will answer.
My friend and I got together and brainstormed how we wanted to make our fabric pumpkins and then got to work. We used scrap fabric leftover from making face masks to make the body of the pumpkins and then decided we wanted to use cinnamon sticks to make the pumpkin stems.
Our first pumpkin was a little smaller than we were planning and more the shape of those little mini pumpkins. It was cute but not what we were wanting. So we drew a pattern a little larger and decided to do 7 sections instead of 8 and this time the pumpkin turned out just how we wanted.

Sew all the pumpkin pieces together:
Decide which pieces you want in what order so no pieces of the same patter ar touching. Then pin pieces in sets of 2 (top side together.
Sew seam together (¼ inch seam allowance)
Take two sew pieces (flip one inside out and pin one side together (top side together.)
When sewing the last piece together leave part of the seam open to make for a hole to turn the pumpkin right side out and stuff.
Stuff pumpkin with Poly-fil till firm.
Make Stem:
Cut cinnamon sticks in half and hot glue the cinnamon stick into the center of the final piece of cut fabric.
Stick into the pumpkin top to mark where to wrap the string.
Finish Stitching the pumpkin closed with stem:
Partially hand stitch how closed leaving just enough room for the cinnamon stick and leaf.
Then place the finished stem back I the pumpkin and finish stitching the pumpkin closed (stitching the leaf to the edges of the fabric hole.

Like I said both pumpkins were cute so I have included the patter for both sizes. If you want a rounder pumpkin then only do 7 pieces, and if you want a more shore plump pumpkin that puckers a bit, then do 8 pieces.
I love how my pumpkins turned out. I plan to make a bunch more in some adore Navy & Grey fabric, to use for my Thanksgiving tablescape in (which will have a Navy, Grey & White theme) ...
