Making your own Customized eye masks has never been easier thanks to Cricut Iron-On

Earlier this week I hosted a Mom’s Night Out Pajama Party (BUNCO GAME NIGHT). I wanted to have something special to give to all my friends to wear along with their Pajamas while we gamed the night away. The first thing that came to mind was Eye Masks. Since I didn’t want to spend a lot of money I checked out my local dollar stores to see if they had any. They did, but I didn’t like the designs on them.
That’s when I thought to myself, “Why don’t you just buy online some plain black eye masks and then use Cricut Iron-On to customize them with your own sayings?!?” So that is exactly what I did. I was happy to note that when you buy plain black sleep masks in bulk online you can get them for less than $1 a piece. Even with the cost of the Iron-On (since you only use a bit per mask) the end result is less than $1. I totally liked this.

Since I needed to make 12 masks all for moms, it took me a while to come up with what I wanted to put on the sleep masks. I opted to put a different message on each mask (using 4 different colors of Glitter Iron-on that I had left over from other projects.) The messages I went with were: Like a Boss, Zzzzz…, Sexy Momma, Go Away, Sweet Dreams, Princess, Go Ask Your Dad, Shhhhh…, #MomTired, Good Night and because we had a major Harry Potter Fan and Traveler for the last two masks I chose Adventure Awaits & Mischief Managed.

Instructions:
- If you want to use the designs I made for my sleep masks then you can get access my Design Space Canvas here. Otherwise, you can choose whatever phrases you want I just sized them to 5inches wide and found that size perfect.

- Make sure to click the “Mirror Image” Box for each mat. (if you forget then when you apply the iron on your words will be backward.)

- Set your Cricut machine to the Custom Setting and then select Glitter Iron-on in the custom materials list on Design Space.

- Load your Iron-on Shiny Side faced down (that is the transfer liner.)

- Using your Weeder from your essential toolkit week out all the unneeded Iron-on (be careful that you don’t accidentally weed out any of the small pieces like the dots on the i. **I find it is easier to weed when the cut Iron-on is still on your cutting mat. So after cutting the Iron-on, I will trim off the excess so I can use the scraps for other projects. Then I will replace the cut Iron-on onto the mat to weed.

- Place your sleep masks on EasyPress Mat and then place your weeded Iron-on Design where you want it on the mask. ** The EasyPress Mat is Cricut’s newest tool to use with their easy press. It shields your work surface from damaging heat (so you can use your table without damaging it) It helps eliminate moisture and directs the heat (from the easy press) to your Iron-On Design creating a better meld to your fabric!

- EasyPress Ironing Instructions
- Set your EasyPress to 275 F and press Iron-On design for 20 seconds on the eye mask using medium pressure. Cold Peel.

Regular Iron Instructions (for those who don’t have an EasyPress Yet.)
- Set your Iron to the Wool Setting and press the Iron over the Design (using the Iron-On Protective sheet between the Iron and your project) eye mask with medium pressure. for about 20 seconds. You know you are done when the protective sheet easily peels without the Iron-on lifting.

When my daughter saw the finished eye mask she asked if she could have the one with “Princess” on it. My mother-in-law’s favorite one was the one that said, “Go Away”. Thankfully, I had a few extra eye masks that I didn’t need for the party so I told them I would be happy to make them each one.
