Are you planning a girl’s movie night for the new Downton Abbey DVD and need some ideas?

That’s right, the Downton Abbey DVD is now available at Walmart & Walmart.com! Just in time for Christmas! Eeeek!

I am soo excited. I LOVED the Downton Abbey series. I am all about period dramas and this one is a favorite. I enjoyed how well the series showcased post-Edwardian life in England as it followed the lives of both the aristocratic Crawley family as well as the men and women who serve them.  I was so sad when the series ended, so when I heard they were making a movie I couldn’t wait to see it.

The Downton Abbey DVD takes place about 18 months after the series finale. All your favorite characters are brought back in this epic English Drama as both the Crawley family and their whole household are informed that the Queen and King of England will be stopping for a night at Downton Abbey on their upcoming tour of Yorkshire on their way to visiting their daughter Princess Mary.  The movie is full of  romance, intrigue, humor and even a scandal or two.

To celebrate the release of the Downton Abbey DVD I thought it would be soo much fun to throw a High Tea inspired Girl’s Movie Night! After all we moms need a night out to relax, laugh and sigh every now and then.

We had the girls movie night party at my parents home. We didn’t have a lot of space for the 12 of us but we just scooted close on the couch and chairs and still enjoyed the evening.

Since I held this Girl’s movie night during the Christmas season and all my friends are busy moms like me, I just had them come as is and focused instead of making the night special with some fun decorations and delicious food.

Since Downton Abbey takes place in England I thought it would be fun to go with a High Tea party theme for the decorations and food. Yes I went for a fancy and fun feel.

I used my cricut to make some fun Framed Quote Prints to hang above the food table (with some of my favorite quotes from the TV series.)

You can’t see what they say really well in the photos (though they were easy to read in person. However these are the 5 Quotes:

“Vulgarity is no substitute for wit.” = Dowager Countess

“I am a custodian, My Dear, not an owner.” – Lord Grantham

“I think accepting change is quite as important as defending the past.” – Lady Grantham

“The business of life is the acquisition of memories, in the end that’s all there is.” – Charlie Carson

“I’m only going to marry if I am totally, absolutely in Love!” – Lady Rose

Then I made these fun Teabag Covers for my favorite Mint and Peach teas. (Find the tutorials here). And for those who didn’t want tea I had ice water.

I served all the food on beautiful Glass Platters (the large single tiered ones that I borrowed from my mother and the 3 tiered High Tea styled ones that I borrowed from my little sister.) For food we had:

  • Chocolate Covered Raspberries
  • Chocolate buiscuts (aka English cookies)
  • Buttery Buiscuts with Sweet Whipped Cream and Raspberry Jam
  • Small Chicken Salad Sandwhiches
  • Lemon Bundt Cake

When everyone arrived we  chatted with each other as we filled our glass plates with food, chose our drinks and then we gathered into the livingroom to start the movie.

The Downton Abbey Movie didn’t disspoint.  We laughed, we sighed and we all enjoyed how everything came together for each of our beloved characters.

When I got home from my mom’s I had to download the digital copy for the DVD so I could watch it again on my laptop while working. I love that the Downton Abbey DVD copy available at Walmart is a DVD, Blueray, & Digital Copy set mking it perfect to enjoy no matter how you prefer watching your movie.

This movie would make for the perfect gift or stocking stuffer (even if it is to you from you…hint, hint.) “Head to Walmart and purchase the new release of Downton Abbey DVD today!”
