Easy DIY Placemat Pillows

Sharing is caring!

I received complimentary products from Fairfield World to facilitate this DIY project. You can read my full disclosure here.)

Did you know you can make adorable Pillows with fabric placemats?

Today I am teaming up with Fairfield World, Laura Kelly (Me and My Inklings), Beth Watson (Creatively Beth) and Ann Butler (Bella Crafts) and some other amazing crafty bloggers to show you how easy and fun it is to make items to spruce up your Summer Patio, and offer a fun Giveaway! (keep reading for the giveaway)

We were each given an assortment of Fairfield quality products and were told to pick one or more of the Fairfield products and to use our favorite craft supplies and our imagination to make something fun for our Summer Patio.

At first, I thought to pull out my Cricut to customize a Pillow cover for the Indr Outdoor pillows they sent (Like I did for these Double-Sided Harry Potter Pillows) but none of my local stores carries blank 20″x20″ pillow covers. While walking through the store I saw these fabric placemats and inspiration struck. I decided that for my project I would like to show you how to make quick and easy Pillows for your Summer Patio using fabric placemats and Fairfield Poly-Fil.

Seriously, these pillows are super easy to make. They require no cutting, hemming, or hand-stitching and only require you to sew two seams on your sewing machine. Best of all it takes less than 10 minutes a pillow!

The best part is that since you are using placemats the pillows automatically have cute hemmed edges.

You can make your own Placemat Pillows using the tutorial below or Pin this post to your DIY Sewing board on Pinterest to make later.

DIY Fabric Placemat Pillows

Add a pop of color to your Summer Patio with these fun Placemat Pillows! They only take minutes to make with fabric placemats, Poly-fil & minimum sewing!

Tools

  • Sewing Machine

Instructions

Take two (single layer) fabric placemats that are the same size and line them up one on top of the other (tag side in.)

Pin them together.

Starting midway on the end of the placemat I then sewed all the way around in one continuous seam (leave a gap to stuff the pillow.)

Fill the pillow with Fairfield Poly-fil and pin end closed.

Sew closed the pillow (I just sewed the while end.

Notes

  • To determine where to sew for the placemats (to get an even seam all the way around) I measured the seams on the end of the placemats and determined to sew just inside them.
  • When pinning the placemats together I placed a few pins around the placemat to keep them from shifting at all while sewing (You want to keep the edges lined up since you are not flipping the mats inside out for an included seam Then I placed pins at the corners to know where to stop and turn the mats (since I did a continuous seam all the way around. And lastly, I put a pin where I wanted to start sewing and stop sewing to leave a gap to add the batting.
  • I matched the threads to the placemats using a red on top and white underneath. Because of this, the seams blended in perfectly with the placemats and you don't even notice them when sewn.
  • 1 Bag of 32 oz Poly-fil will make multiple throw pillows.
